USEFUL HANDOUTS:  History on File Wiemar Depression Rise of Nazis.pdf             quick and dirty outline Rise of Fascism.pdf           Weimar Structure.doc

John Maynard Keynes  F.A. Hayek

- supported government intervention to deal with economic downturns

- government stimulus and public works programs could boost 'aggregate demand'

- increased demand could rejuvenate production, which would decrease unemployment

- generally correlates to Democrats views regarding our "Great Recession"  (Obama Stimulus plan, FDR public works programs)

- "bottom up" recovery plan as compared to Keynes' "top down"

- rejected government interference, worried it would alter attitudes about work

- feared government 'stimulus' money might cause inflation

- supported "supply side" economics which sought to rejuvenate the economy by lessening the burdens on and regulation of  business

- deragualtion would spur businesses to grow, thus creating jobs

- supported lower taxes on businesses

- correlates to contemporary Republican views regarding our "Great Recession"
