2011 UNIT 4: South Asia: Focus India

SOUTH ASIA

 

 

In this unit the student will learn about the physical and political geography of South Asia.  The student will then be asked to understand the origins, beliefs, and practices of the major world faiths native to the region, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sihkism, and Jainism.  Finally, the student's learning will focus on the political history of India.  The student will be asked to consider the economic and social impact of British imperialism in India.  Special attention will be paid to the independence and creation of both India and Pakistan.   The student will consider the reasons for modern tension between India and Pakistan. 

 

 

 

DAY 1:  Geography of South Asia

 

Describe dominant physical features of South Asia.  Locate and name the countries of South Africa.

2.  HANDOUT:  Challenges to British Rule in India.  We will use the powerpoint (Challenges to British Rule in India.ppt)  and the videos below to understand the major challenges to British rule of India. 

 

HW: Complete the quote analysis (back page of note packet from Friday).  On a separate sheet of paper, answer the question that appears at the bottom of the quote analysis sheet.  You must refer to the quotes and write in complete sentences.  Organize your ideas into a coherent paragraph for complete credit.
