  • Analyze the concerns and goals of the participants in the Pilgrimmage of Grace and of those who oppose the movement.
  • Practice developing arguements derived from sources.
  • Practice writing a thesis based on arguments derived from primary sources.

In groups of three or four you will read, analyze and discuss the DBQ.

FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW.

  1. Read, savor, and analyze the question and historical background.
  2.  A quick brainstorm, or actually a summer shower, of “outside information”
  3.  Create an appropriate graphic organizer
  4. Read the documents in order; TAKE MARGIN NOTES, add information to your organizer
  5. Pay attention to contradictions, the author, organization of the documents themselves
  6. Develop a thesis based on your findings; develop an essay outline based on your thesis

By the end of the block, your group must present

1:  A refined THESIS STATEMENT that addresses all parts of the question (This does not have to be one sentence.  This is a complicated answer to a complicated question.  To attempt to write this thesis in a single sentence would yield a confusing mess.)

2:  TOPIC sentences that you would use to provide focus for your body paragraphs.  Remember that these topic sentences should be ARGUMENTS DERIVED FROM THE DOCUMENTS!  Look for commonalities among the documents (these commonalities typically lead you to arguments, and a thesis).

3.  Include all participating group member names.

  • Analyze the concerns and goals of the participants in the Pilgrimmage of Grace and of those who oppose the movement.
  • Practice developing arguements derived from sources.
  • Practice writing a thesis based on arguments derived from primary sources.

GROUP THESIS DUE AT END OF BLOCK.

HW:  Begin working on the take home dbq.  You must type your essay.  I reserve the right to ask for document notes and graphic organizer (so make sure you make one and take notes of the docs!)

THE SPANISH ROAD:  This was the name given to the 700 mile-long overland route that the Spanish were forced to use in order to supply their army fighting in the Netherlands. There was little alternative because Dutch rebels – called Sea Beggars – effectively ran a blockade of ships along the coast of the Netherlands and parts of France so that the Spanish could not easily supply their troops by sea
