Overview of Western Civilization: 

 

This is a teacher lead overview of the general narrative of the history we will study.  We will create a timeline of major movements, events and key dates.  This lesson is an attempt to provide a long view of the detailed history we will study this year.

TOPIC:  From peak to plummet: The feudal state (c. 800- 1300 AD)

 

  • In what ways did Charlemagne represent the pinnacle of feudal monarchy in the early middle ages?  In what ways did he create a model for future kings?
  • How did government and politics change during the high middle ages?  Describe how monarchs took advantage of feudalism to increase their power.
  • Which emergin state laid the best foundations for future success?
